WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit is commonly defined as “constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity.” Workouts are based on functional movements combining strength training, cardio, core work, mobility/flexibility, olympic lifting, and much more. By incorporating a constantly varied approach to fitness, these movements and intensity lead to dramatic and impressive results.

IS CROSSFIT FOR EVERYONE?

Who can do CrossFit? Anyone can! In any of our classes, you will find people of all ages and fitness abilities. WODs can be easily modified to take into account a participant’s strengths and weaknesses. There is no truth to the myth that you need to get into shape in order to start CrossFit. CrossFit is set up so everyone can get started, regardless of fitness level.

Is CrossFit Safe?

The short answer: Yes. At the W CrossFit, our coaches work with every athlete to ensure proper form is followed. In addition, CrossFit incorporates functional movements that you perform in every day life. Our programming is specifically designed replicate those movements to avoid any injuries.

WHAT IS A CROSSFIT WORKOUT LIKE?

In one word – FUN! At The W CrossFit | FIT Wallingford, every class is different because the workout changes each day. Our classes are challenging yet offer supportive atmosphere where it’s not uncommon to hear cheering and encouragement. Classes last one hour and include a dynamic warm-up, mobility, skill and strength work, and a metabolic conditioning workout. Everyone does the same workout of the day (WOD) and we are able to scale the workout for each athlete depending on their abilities.

WHAT TYPE OF EXERCISES DO YOU DO?

All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements that incorporate aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. Some of the core movements in CrossFit include: squats, presses, deadlifts, pull-ups, clean & jerks, and snatches. In addition to these movements, you can expect to work on pull-ups, push-ups, handstands, muscle-ups, sit-ups, kettlebell work and much more.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST CLASS?

Make sure you bring enough water for before, during and after your workout. Everyone has different abilities and strengths, so don’t feel like you need to measure up to anyone else. The workouts are meant for you to progress and get better over time.
